About Justin VanAlstyne
Expertise
I have a full working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat 5.0 - 7.01. I have experience in creating interactive PDFs, embedding multimedia, web-based forms, creating presentations using PDF, advanced prepress preparation, PDF web optimization, color management, and using PDF as a soft-proofing tool. I do not have a lot of experience using Acrobat`s advanced Javascripting features, though a lot of custom functionality can be built into a PDF this way.

Question
Thanks, Justin. But I double checked my PDFs and there is no way to change the settings. On my Mac I went to File, Document Secirity, and it brings up a fixed window listing the security settings. There is nothing available on the top of the screen anywhere to make changes for printing or non-printing. I am miffed. ?

Question -
Hello-

I am using Adobe Acrobat 5 to create PDFs on my Mac. These will be viewable on my website. How do I set them to be
non-printable? Thank you.

Answer -
David-

Very simply. Open up the PDF, go to the File menu to "Document Propeties" (Command - D), and then go the the Security section. There you will be able to set a password to lock the document, and set the print and editing options for the PDF. You have to set a password to enable these settings. None of them are permanent. After locking down the PDF, you can always come back to this screen, enter the password, and turn off all the security at any time down the road.

Answer
David-

Under the Acrobat 'File' menu, there should be a menu item named 'Document Properties'. Once in that menu, go the to the "Security" list item on the left. Then you want to change "Security Method:" to 'Password Security', which prompts you to enter your desired password, and then lets you change the security settings for that document.

You must have the full version of Acrobat to do this. You can not edit these options with the free Acrobat Reader program.

Hope this helps,
- Justin
