About Justin VanAlstyne Expertise I have a full working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat 5.0 - 7.01. I have experience in creating interactive PDFs, embedding multimedia, web-based forms, creating presentations using PDF, advanced prepress preparation, PDF web optimization, color management, and using PDF as a soft-proofing tool. I do not have a lot of experience using Acrobat`s advanced Javascripting features, though a lot of custom functionality can be built into a PDF this way.

Question Hi, hope I'm in the right place, apologies if not.I've downloaded text-only books and viewed them on the Adobe Reader so this seemed a hopeful place to start. Anyhow here goes, I'm trying to find a simple guide to creating an e-book and I wondered if you know of any rescources on the net or a book which explains the process simply (I'm getting tired of selling my best work and ideas to publishers). The book I'm writing is instructional and will include photos (can Adobe cope with pics.? I did wonder if this kind of e-book is put together using HTML...I've already done a website). The content needs to look stylish and professional, as good as anything similar you could buy in the same format - so I'll be wanting to play about with the fonts and layout. I'd like the reader to be able to print off a page or two at a time to work from. Also if you know of any handy freeware programmes.
Many thanks, Bobbi
Answer Bobbi-
Congratualations on wanting to produce your own e-books! To the best of my knowledge, the contents of the books are usually laid out in a desktop publishing or page layout program such as Adobe InDesign, Quark, Publisher, etc. From there, the document is laid out exactly how you like it, and then exported to a PDF e-book format as a last step. There are lots of add-on program for Acrobat and InDesign/Quark that aid in book layout and creation of e-books.
Your best bet is to start at www.planetpdf.com, they have tons of info, links, and shareware listings and reviews for all things PDF.
