About Justin VanAlstyne Expertise I have a full working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat 5.0 - 7.01. I have experience in creating interactive PDFs, embedding multimedia, web-based forms, creating presentations using PDF, advanced prepress preparation, PDF web optimization, color management, and using PDF as a soft-proofing tool. I do not have a lot of experience using Acrobat`s advanced Javascripting features, though a lot of custom functionality can be built into a PDF this way.

I'm using Acrobat 7 for Mac, and I get exactly the same problem as Devra. I'm not sure whether the order is random but it certainly isn't ordered by alphanumeric order. I think it might order by the date and time the file was created or modified. I tried using a utility program to reset the creation and modified dates of the files to all the same time, but that didn't help either. Perhaps there is some other characteristic of the files that Acrobat is using to sort how it adds files.

This is how I *randomly* stumbled on a fix for this problem. I am using Acrobat 5 on a MacOS. Go to Preferences>General>Options and DE-select "Use logical page numbers" under "Miscellaneous". I don't know what in the world's name is wrong with Adobe, but THAT seemed to fix it! The pages are all inserting in the order they are supposed to - page1.pdf before page2.pdf etc etc.
This is quite illogical indeed.

I've had the exact same problem and haven't been able to get Justin's solution to work. Even if they are alphabetized, it still reverses the order. However, you can do it another way. Using file/create pdf/from multiple files you can see the order the files are going to be in (and control it!)

I have the same problem with Acrobat Professional Version 7, so apparently this problem has been around a long time and I'm surprised Adobe has not addressed it or added a feature to sort internally.
