About Justin VanAlstyne
Expertise
I have a full working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat 5.0 - 7.01. I have experience in creating interactive PDFs, embedding multimedia, web-based forms, creating presentations using PDF, advanced prepress preparation, PDF web optimization, color management, and using PDF as a soft-proofing tool. I do not have a lot of experience using Acrobat`s advanced Javascripting features, though a lot of custom functionality can be built into a PDF this way.

Question
greetings
is there any way of filling in details on pdf forms on screen before printing
thanks

Answer
Harry-

There sure is, but it depends on how the form was constructed, and how much time you'd like to spend making it.

If you desire for a form to be filled out online and have the data be used else where, such as with a survey or registration form or something like that, you can build all of the fields using the form tool. The form tool allows you to create radio buttons, check boxs, text fields, number fields, etc. That when filled out, can either be submitted to a web program for processing, or printed/saved.

If you are just filling out other people's forms, and wish to type in your own information instead of printing it and writing it on the paper, you can simply use the "text box tool" and create your own little text boxes in each of the spaces on the form. This data just appears to Acrobat as random comments all over the page, so don't expect to be able to reuse the filled in data, or to process it at all. There are options when printing that allow you to print the comments on the page, by default they do not print.

Both of these solutions seem rather tedious if the maker of the form hasn't already created all of the fields in the PDF for you. If they have, you can fill it all and and print it without a problem.

You will need the full version of Acrobat to make your own forms or to create the text boxes.

Good luck,

- Justin
