Subject: using acrobat 7 when doc created in 8

Question
QUESTION: I recently made pdf's from files for a client.  I am using acrobat 8, which I just purchased, my client uses acrobat 7.  Every time it is opened with version 7, a large window pops up letting my client know that they need to optimize and upgrade to version 8.  The file still opens, but the pop up needs to be removed.  Does anyone know how to make the pop up go away when the document is viewed in Adobe 7?
ANSWER: As with all applications, new versions offer new features. When you make a PDF using Acrobat 8, a new feature might be present, and (of course) Acrobat 7 may not be able to 'handle' a new object - the obvious way to solve this is to have your customer upgrade to 8 (like DOH!) - or, perhaps - set up Distiller to use the PDF/X-1a files Distiller settings (which is based on a lower, earlier version of the PDF Specification - that will create PDF files that are compatible with earlier versions of Adobe Acrobat.

QUESTION: hi, What I have found is that for my client the COVER PAGE is appearing every time they open a file produced in 8.  What can I do to change that?

Thanks, Jon

Answer
While I am not absolutely certain as to what you mean by "Cover Page", I might guess that what you are experiencing is  the somewhat terrible decision by adobe to change the behavior of Facing Pages display.

In earlier Acrobat 7, when you switched to a Facing Pages view setting, you saw the pages correctly -- The first page is shown on the right with the pages facing each other in correct sequence. In Acrobat 8, the opening page defaults to being shown on the left and the subsequent pages face the wrong recto and verso. For Print-oriented users, this new view (called Two-Up instead of Facing) is problematic as the user cannot check spreads or page balance.

If this is what you are speaking of, please take a moment complain to Adobe. This (and other complaints) was written up here

Hope this helps !
