Subject: Converting to PDF

Question
I recently upgraded from FrameMaker 7.2 to 8.0.  I am trying to convert my book to PDF, but it is giving me an error that, "It could not open the file, because it was created with a previous version of FrameMaker."  Is there a fix for this?

Answer
I have not worked with Frame 8 - but the following should work for you since it worked for us, when we converted from Frame 6 to 7
Make a copy of your folder prior to doing the following. In case you need to go back to your original. After your review then you can throw away your old copies.
When we converted from 6.0 to 7.0 about 5% of the files didn't come over quit correctly, (sometimes the graphics were not quit correct). Once you do the conversion to FRAME 8, I would create a pdf and give the files a quick look to make sure everything is still OK.
With your book OPEN - Hold down the SHIFT KEY - Go to the MENU BAR and Select FILE - OPEN ALL - This will open all of your files. You should get a popup menu for each one that says - do you want to convert to Frame 8.0 (or something close to that).
Once all of your files are open - Hold down the SHIFT key again and go back to the MENU BAR - and select FILE - SAVE ALL.
Once you have saved all of your OPEN Files.
Hold down the SHIFT Key - go to the MENU BAR and Select - FILE - CLOSE ALL.
Your files have now been converted to Frame 8.
You should now be able to use Frame 8 to open your files without getting the "opening Frame 7.0" message.
You should now be able to convert to pdf without any problem.
If not - ask again.
Regards, Wayne.
