Subject: Can't export fm file to xml

Question
Hi Wayne. It's probably impossible for you to answer this cos you can't see the things I've created to trouble shoot them. However I'll do my best to explain what's happening to see if  you have any ideas. Thanks in anticipation. I've been following the steps in Adobe's http://www.adobe.com/devnet/framemaker/pdfs/migrationguide.pdf but when I get to "Testing XML round-tripping", step 2, I get a mighty Save as XML Log with line after line of Error stating Unknown element 'Element name'. E.g.,
"Error al line 13, char 18, Message: Unknown element 'Title'". I'm sure it's a caused by a step that affects everything because it says it of every element. I think it's going wrong under "Building the structured application". For example it says to create a structured template, open the structured_proposal.fm (the .fm they've stepped you through creating) and says "delete all content from the file. The structured template must be empty". Is that right - you convert your .fm into an empty .fm and save it as proposal_template.fm (like, it's a completely empty .fm ... why would it matter what you create if from? And what use can it be as an empty .fm that just called proposal_template? It's hard to understand what use an empty .fm is. Also it's not very clear when it tells you to update the structapps.fm file (p20). The picture just shows you as setting the path for the DTD and the Template to a $STRUCTDIRXML folder they tell you to create (in C:Program FilesAdobeetc). Then you have to copy the .dtd file and the (empty!) .fm that has 'template' in it's filename. It's hard to see how this all works. It finally tells you to create a valid structured .fm (why not just use the one they stepped you through?) but all I get is the errors when I try to save it as an XML file (step 2. second from bottom of page 20). Hard one, I think, not cos you don't know but cos you can't see what I've done (or not done). Believe me, I've checked my syntax over and over. I'll quite understand if this is too hard analyse like this.

Regards, Colin.

Answer
Colin - Sorry but this is out of my expertise area.
We are just starting to convert our stuff to xml.
Your error messages are telling me that you need to define the Element TITLE some where.
You might go to frame menu bar and select FILE - Structure Tools, as there might be some information there which might help you.
Best of luck on you efforts to find a solution.
Regards, Wayne
