Subject: FM7-gaps in imported text

Question
Hi Wayne:
I'm working with Windows FM7, converting Word documents. The documents
were originally on a Mac in Word X. I transferred them to the PC, saved them
as Word '97, then saved a text version and imported the text into a FM
document. Certain places have huge gaps of 1/3-1/2 page where the text
just goes to the next page. Selecting the Keep With Next Pgf or Previous Pgf
doesn't help. It's like there's a line break somewhere to be deleted, or
somehow I have to correct the flow. Can you help?

Thanks

Answer
A Couple of things to check:
One of the below should solve your problem for text flow.

1. Make sure you don't have extra "hard" line returns. When using Word, some people would just hit the "enter" key repeatedly to "force" text to the next page instead of inserting a "page break." To check this go to the Menu Bar - Select VIEW - TEXT SYMBOLS, if you see lots of extra "paragraph marks" with no text - just delete them.

2. With you cursor in Frame main text area do a "SELECT ALL" (Ctrl and A Key). Go to the MENU Bar - Select FORMAT - PARAGRAPHS - DESIGNER. Select the Pagination TAB.
Just below the "Start" Text is a Selection Box - Make sure "Anywhere" is displayed. Make sure both "Next Pgf" and "Previous Pgf" boxes are unchecked, then click the "Apply" button.

If you are still having problems send me an email with one of your files attached and I will take a look at it.
Be sure you put Framemaker in the subject area.
