Subject: problem with pagination and numbering when printing a book

Question
I am new to FrameMaker, so I hope this is just a simple fix I have yet to learn.

I have several files that are just one page (1 of 1). This is clearly indicated when I open up each file --it is only scrollable for one page and reads "1 of 1" in the bar at the bottom of the window.

But when they are grouped in a book with other files, the page numbering reads it as 2 pages. I've tried every setting in Pagination and in Numbering for these files and the ones that surround them, and it still reads it as two pages. However, when it prints --and the Pagination is set to "Delete Empty Pages", it leaves it out of the print job, but also skips the number, so it will print out like this: Page 1 on the right, Page 2 on the left, Page 3 on the right, Page 5 on the left, Page 6 on the right, etc.

No text is being left out since it is just deleting a blank page that doesn't display when I open the file. But the numbering is all off. Considering that ultimately I will have to print a book with 100 files, I hope there is a solution to this problem.

This has to be a simple fix, but I can't find anything in the manual or online. Any suggestions?

Answer
Book numbering over-rides file numbering.
Before doing the following - Make a backup of your Frame Files folder.

With your Book Open Select all of the files; (Select the first file, (don't Open it), then holding down the shift key - scroll to the bottom of your Book and select the last file.

Now right click one of the selected files (in the hi-lighted area) and select NUMBERING from the pop-up menu.

Select the "Page" Tab and select "Read from File."

Select Set - and all of the files in the book should be updated.

Now you just need to open some of your files, (I would go about 1/2 down the book list) and check if your page numbering is correct.
If not - correct it inside the document, (not from the book) and save your document. Now go to Edit - Update Book - and your numbering should be correct.

If this doesn't work - send me your book and about 3-4 files and I will take a look at it. Be sure to put Framemaker in the subject line.

PKZIP the files if you can.
