Adobe Framemaker/how to import Word into Framemaker?

Question
Wayne,

I have Framemaker 7.2 and Word 2003 at work. I need to convert a 370 page manual done in Word (with 100+ graphics) to Frame.

I have tried using Paste Special in Frame and selecting RTF format but Frame fails to insert anything (after chugging along for a minute or so).

The only method that works somewhat is Paste Special as text. That methods inserts all the text but strips out all graphics and all formatting.

I have read about a third party tool called MIF2GO but the web site makes it sound like that tool is for converting from Frame to other formats.

Is there a method that will allow me to copy all the formatting and graphics from the Word doc into Frame?

Hopefully,

Michael F

Try the following: Save your Word File as an RTF file and then import it into your Frame Document, but what I would do is:
Break your Word document into about 50-75 page sections and then import each section into your Frame document.
You might even use 1 Frame document for each of your sections and then control the sections, numbering etc., using a Frame Book File. This should make your opening, closing and editing of the files much faster, than if you have 1 large manual.

Regards, Wayne.

Basic set-up of books, master pages, generation of List of Effective pages (LEP), Indexing, auto-numbering. Various ways to import graphics, including advantages and disadvantages of importing into a text frame or importing into a "blank" page. Using a "book" to generate PDF files, with hyperlinking. Customization of function keys, currently setup for Frame 7.0 i.e. change F1 to turn "Change bar" On and Off, F2 to "Cut" a selection, F3 to copy, F4 to Paste, F6 to set line to "TOP OF PAGE" and Shift F6 to start line "anywhere" these can be easily your current config files and if you do not like them - old config files can be restored. I have no expertise in Structured Framemaker, (i.e. XML or SGML).
