Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have a book that has multiple chapter. I need the total page count to reflect the full content of the book not just one chapter as it is doing.
How can I get the "Page xxx of yyy pages" to be all encompassing?
I appreciate any assistance you may offer.

ANSWER: Bobby
Try the following with a copy of your book and files.

1. With your book open setup your first chapter in your book.
2. Now select the rest of the chapters in your book - but do not open them - just select those chapters.
3. With the Chapters still selected - on the MENU BAR - Select FORMAT - DOCUMENT NUMBERING.
4. In the pop-up box - Select - "Continue Numbering from Previous Page in Book."
5. After the book as completed it's process - Select EDIT - UPDATE BOOK.
If you do not already have the "page count" in each file then you will need to add that "Variable" to each of your files.

QUESTION: Thanks Wayne.
I appreciate your help.
I have done as you explained and I understand that element (Continued from previous page in book) what I am having trouble with is the actual setting up of the Page Count variable. or the yyy pages portion.

Answer
Bobby.
Make sure you are on the "Master Page" and there has to be a "text area" where you have your page numbers inserted. It should look something like the following: Page #
You cannot type the # sign - you have to let Framemaker insert it.
If you don't have a text block for the page numbering you can draw one using the FrameMaker tool bar (item with the triangle on the right side of the Frame Document.
Now place the cursor where you want the "total" page count to appear.
Go to the Menu bar and select SPECIAL - VARIABLE and highlight "PAGE COUNT" in the displayed box and then select INSERT. If your cursor is not in a "text block" then the "PAGE COUNT" variable WILL NOT be highlighted.
You will need to do this for every chapter and MASTER PAGE you are using in your files, (i.e Left and Right Master Pages).

If this doesn't solve your problem then send me one of your documents in Frame 7 and I will take a look at it. Be sure to put framemaker in the subject area of the email.
