Adobe Framemaker/Inserting STX (ASCII character) in FrameMaker 6.0
Expert: Neal Ziring - 6/7/2011
QuestionHi,
I am working on a document (using frameMaker 6.0) where I need to enter an ASCII character for STX (start text character) in a partcular code sequence. I am not able to do so in FrameMaker. The same can be inserted in Microsoft Word (2007)and notepad by typing Alt+241 using the numeric keypad on your keyboard.
I am not able to copy the same into FrameMaker using Paste Special. I also cannot find it on the Character_Sets.pdf stored in the OnlineManuals folder on your C drive.
Can you please help me as I have some tight release deadlines?
Thank You!
AnswerPriyanka,
Sorry this answer is so late, I missed the e-mail that AllExperts generated for
your original question.
Anyway, if you are using Windows, the easiest way to copy most special characters into
Framemaker is to the use Windows system tool Character Map (%windir%\system32\charmap.exe).
Select the character you want (STX is 0xD8, I think) and copy it in charmap, then paste it
in Framemaker. That has always worked for me. But the character will show up as whatever
glyph that font uses at that point code.
Another way, though more risky, would be to save the Framemaker file as Maker Interchange
Format (.mif), then edit the text of the MIF file using Wordpad or some other text editor.
Good luck...
