Answer I am not sure what you really want to do but if you want just the "text" area to be a different color:
Then do the following:
Go to the Master Page
Then have your "Toolbox" open - the triangle icon.
Select the upper right icon from this menu.
Select the "Text" Frame.
Select the color you want 3rd icon from the bottom right -
Select icon that says "Set Fill Pattern," (8th. icon from the bottom).
If you want the area outside of the "Text Frame" a different color.
Select the "Draw a Rectangle" icon and draw a rectangle around the area you want to change color.
Then do a fill color - as in the steps above.
Now if you do not want a "border" around this area - Select "Set Pen Pattern" and select NONE or select the color you want for the borders.
Once the color is filled as you want - go to the MENU BAR and Select - GRAPHICS - SEND TO BACK.
That should do what you want.
