Subject: FrameMaker 7.1 graphic check mark

Question
I am using FrameMaker 7.1 and I would like to know how I can make a graphic Check Mark in the body of text? I have tried to us the graphics pull down menu but I don't see this option.

Answer
Try this:
Go to Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Character Map.
Now In the Font Selection - Select WingDings - Scroll to the bottom and on the Last FULL Row (on my computer anyway) you will see a Check Mark.
Select it so it appears in the Characters to copy box.
Select it and copy.

Go to your Frame Document (insert a paragraph return somewhere on your page, now go to Format - Font - and select the Wingdings Font.
Type a couple of key strokes - (the key strokes should generate symbols) this lets you know that Wingdings is the font that is being used.
Now next to the paragraph mark (if you have Text Symbols Selected, located on VIEW - TEXT SYMBOLS), and paste - and you should have the checkmark. If it doesn't work, right click your mouse and then select paste text.

Now just copy and paste where you want it - If you use it alot I would copy it to my Reference Page and paste it there.
Most important thing is to make sure you have the WINGDING Font selected before you paste.
Also if you find the following pdf file that Frame installs - it has a ton of info on symbols and fonts - about 60 pages worth.
I just print it out and keep it handy.
Try going to START-SEARCH-FILES and FOLDERS and enter the following file name: Character_Sets.pdf
Make sure you select "ALL FILES and FOLDERS" otherwise it will not search system and program folders - which is where this file is located:
The Location is a follows:
Select by Double Clicking My Computer - Select your C Drive: \Program Files\Adobe\Framemaker 7.1\Online Manuals\Character_Sets.pdf
Make sure you read the beginning as it tells you how to generate the characters by using key strokes.

If this doesn't solve your problem - ask again, or email me at: waynejohnson2@comcast.net
Be sure you put Framemaker in the subject area.

Regards, Wayne.
