I too have problems with Search and Replace across a book, and the problem occurs randomly.
However, I have figured out a way to make it NOT HAPPEN.
The problem only occurs for me (sometimes, but not always) when I have a book open, search the book. Doesn't seem to matter how many of the book's files are open.
However, this problem NEVER occurs for me when I have ALL of the book's files open.
Running v7.1p116 on Windows XP.
Hope this helps. It has definitely worked for us. I don't always like to open all the book files, but it's worth not crashing.
