Adobe Illustrator - Illustrator 9 problem

Expert: Amy - 1/3/2008

Question
I keep getting the following message when I try to open my file:
Can't open illustration. the illustration exceeds an implementation limit.
Offending operator: "1 101Xy
0J0j1w4m[]0d
0XR
/Def;
(BlendStyle),
;/Dict;
/Part,
;
/Part,
.
then the file opens but without the illustration as a new file however it has the correct file name.  is there any way I can retrieve my work? I was saving through out even if it is an older version of the work.  I also tried deleting AIpref but it did not work.
Please help.
Thank you in advance.
Paola

Answer
Hi Paola.

Sounds like your file is corrupt.

Most often, there's no fix for this. The file is lost.

You can try opening a new Illustrator document and Placing the file (don't select the "Link" checkbox) into the new doc.

You can also try distilling the document into a PDF if you've got Distiller.

A couple of times I have found that my embedded artwork was causing problems, so I opened the embedded files in PhotoShop and resaved them using the exact same names, in effect refreshing them.

Otherwise, there's very little you can do.

Good luck!
Amy
