Question
I have a client who sent me some files created in AI 10 & CS, but they were suppose to be saved as legacy files, but I can't actually see any graphics when I try to open them in my AI 9. Any suggestions? I've had this problem before. Is there any way for me to be able to open these files. We have tried CS & CS2 upgrades & don't care for them with the plugins & process that we need AI for. Thanks,Jessica

Answer
Hi Jessica,

If they were really saved as 9 and you can't see the artwork, the possibility exists that the artwork contained effects that 9 cannot process or display.

I can't think of any other way to open AI files if they are version 10 and you only have version 9, sorry!

You could ask the client to save them as PDF files for you. Those should work better. If not, try legacy EPS format.

Hope this helped a little.

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

Experience

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
