Adobe Illustrator/command functions not operating

Question
I have a new iMac and have installed the Adobe Creative Suite and do not have
any shortcut command functions, also my transform in illustrator won't let me
activate any functions (such as scale, rotate, ect) and I can't name my layers in
Illustrator.  I have yet to work much with the other programs but don't have
command functions with those either.

Answer
Hi Sandra,

Don't know if you figured it out yet, but I would start by throwing away your preference files. Quit Ai and locate and delete the Aiprefs file.

To turn on the Tranform tools, just hit Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + B. This is the shortcut for Show Bounding Box, which is also found in the View menu.

As far as naming layers, I think the AIprefs refresh would fix that.

There is a reported keyboard shortcut glitch with CS3. Sometimes switching to a different shortcut set and back fixes it. Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts then pick a new set. save and then do it again and choose the default set again.

If this doesn't work, it's possible that there's something running in the background of your machine that controls the shortcuts you are trying to use.

Let me know if any of this helped you! Sorry for the delay in my response!

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
