Question
I recently had an external hard drive crash, but was able to get the data
recovered.  I tried opening Illlustrator 10, however, and kept getting a
message that said the program had quit unexpectedly.  I tried a few other
things with no luck, so decided to re-install.  It is not installing -- the
installer is now quitting unexpectedly.  I have tried to install it on both the
computer as well as a new external hard drive.

Hi Kate,

Are you installing from the application DVDs or Windows installer wizard? Im assuming that you are using the Windows install. The problem with this is your source files are probably corrupt from the recovery.

Anytime I have a drive crash, even if I get a data recovery (you are soooo lucky!) I transfer the documents only to a new drive then wipe it clean. I then reinstall my apps from the original install disks.

Installing from Windows and not the original Adobe DVDs is never a good practice even with stable files, it leads to install issues down the road.
