Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator 9 for Mac running on Classic
Expert: Kevin Stohlmeyer - 11/21/2008
QuestionQUESTION: My Adobe Illustrator 9.0, running in Classic mode on a Mac, will no longer "save" or "save as" any file, new or old ones. I have already tried a re-install. How do I fix this?
ANSWER: Hi Karen,
This has to do with your hard drive and OS rather than AI. Either you are not in the admin mode (logged in with limited permissions) or your file location is in a locked location. Either way would prevent you from saving. Log in as the computers administrator and then make sure your file is not in a locked location.
Thanks

QUESTION: I don't understand. I am the only user of this computer, having permission for everything. I don't know what creates a "locked Location" but this inability to "save" is happening with any new Illustrator files I try to create and any old files that were okay previously. Also I just tried creating a file in Indesign and that also will not "save" or "Save as"—however my Photoshop and Acrobat are working fine.
Can I do any repair short of a total system re-install?
ANSWER: Hi karen,
Will it allow you to print?
If not, your apps are running in a demo mode and you will need to check the registration. (Under the help menu).
Let me know either way so I can narrow down the solutions.
Thanks

QUESTION: Old Illustrator documents print fine and a newly created document WILL print also, but will not let me save it. I used Illstrator without problems mid-October but those files like the rest won't "save as". At that time I was opening pdf's someone else created in GIS mapping software. Does that shed any light on a conflict issue or a virus issue? My Illustrator is not a Demo; I have been using the same version for years, but thanks for the idea.
Indesign will NOT print, saying it needs a PostScript printer, so that's a new problem.(I haven't used Indesign in a long time but the printer is the same one.)
Am I starting to see an eventual system crash coming?
AnswerI would say that your ID/IL have somehow corrupted in your classic environment. The only solution I can come up with is to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of your Classic Bootup and the software along with the print drivers, etc.
Unfortunately, this is why Apple abandoned this idea and came out with Leopard.
Sorry I couldnt be of more help.
