Adobe Illustrator/highlights

Question
I have a pdf file with normal text, which contains highlighting.  I was told I could remove the highlights using illustrator, can you assist me.  Thanks  :)

Hi Kevin,

You can open your PDF in Illustrator and see if you can select the highlight with the direct select tool (white arrow). However, if this is a scanned object, or the highlight was created in another application, it may not allow you to do so.
