Question
Hello,
I am bring images in to illustrator in psd format because I need the
transparent backgroun. However, when I convert the image to a pdf and print
it the white squares behind the images show up and they are not showing up
in the illustrator file. Can you please tell me how to fix this problem.

Thanks
Kylee

Answer
Hi Kylee,

First of all, the layer or layers in the PSD doc need to have clear backgrounds. I think yours does.

When you imported your PhotoShop document, you should have imported it as embedded (not linked).

You'll get an option to import the PSD file as layers or to flatten. You want layers. Each layer will be a single object.

You can delete any obvious problem layers at this time.

Then, before printing the PDF, you should select the image/layer in the PhotoShop document and any object that overlaps with it (including any background objects or text) and select Object > Flatten Transparency and select a nice high resolution in the resulting dialog... 300 dpi is great.

Then you should be able to print to a PDF with no problem!

Let me know if this helps you! If you hit a roadblock, I will take a look at the file for you (if size allows). You can email me at AmyLynPace@yahoo.com
