Question
Kevin,

Thank you for your recent, prompt answer regarding CS3 font and stroke defaults questions.

I need further clarification on the font portion of my question.
1) When you wrote "In the Adobe Illustrator CS/Plug-ins folder, copy the current default startup file--Adobe Illustrator Startup_CMYK or Adobe Illustrator Startup_RGB--and save it with a different name " I need a bit more direction beacuse I find two Plug-ins folders, one in the Application data>Documnets and Settings (under my user name)>Plug-ins, and the second one under Program Files>Adobe Illustrator CS3>Plug-ins. Both of these folder do not have a Adobe Illustrator Startup _CMYK or Adobe Illustrator Startup_RGB file listed. There is a similar file under Application Data>New Document Profiles and it's name is Basic CMYK.ai or Basic RGB.ai.
Are either of these files what I need to ammend?

Second question: There used to be a way to change the deafult stroke under the aipref file by changing the code. Has that gone away? If so, too bad -- it was pretty useful!

Thanks for you time, I know I'm being difficult!

Answer
Hi Rita,

Youre not being difficult. The default stroke has gone away since they recoded the application. You are in the right spot for PC.

Here is the official way to change this in CS3:

Choose File > Open and go to Documents and Settings/User/Application Data/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings/New Document Profiles (Windows).

Open the Basic CMYK, Basic RGB, Mobile and Devices, Print, Video and Film, or Web, depending on which type of document you intend to use. (this is where you ended up).

Choose Window > Type > Character Styles.

Select the Normal Character Style and choose Character Style Options from the palette menu.

Select Basic Character Formats and choose the desired font from the Font Family menu.

Click OK, and then choose File > Save and close the file.

That should do it for PC.

Thanks

Kevin
