Adobe Illustrator/Printing problem

Question
I have a file that was created using Adobe Illustrator 8.0 on a PC.  I now own
an iMac which has Illustrator CS on it.  When I open the file in CS it asks me to
update legacy text (which I do) and everything looks good on screen.  The
problem is when I go to print the file.  My Canon S400 printer doesn't give me
a sharp, clear image and I believe it is a software issue (no options for
improving print quality).  I need to be able to print this file with clearly
defined colors and text.  Can you recommend a moderately priced printer
(under $200) that will allow me to improve the quality of the printed image?
If you need more info about this problem, please let me know.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi David,

This isn't really a software problem with Illustrator, but it could be a driver issue with your mac. Before you go out and spend the money, go onto the Cannon site and make sure you have the latest drivers. Next, if your printer has a head cleaning option, I would run that option as well. It could be a matter of buttons on the printer, or a third party cannon software.

If you really want to go out and buy a printer, I would recommend any HP or Epson inkjet printer given the fact that they both run great on Mac or PC.

Thanks

Kevin
