Adobe Illustrator/placed files

Question
File colored in Photoshop with a pantone color (monotone) separates OK if
linked, but converts to cmyk when embedded. Would like to retain color
information and embed file. What do I do?

Answer
Donald,
Since you didn't mention the format of the monotone I would suggest saving the Phototshop monotone as a psd or pdf file before you place it and embed it. Or try converting the image to grayscale (since a monotone is basically a grayscale image that prints and previews in a spot color) and then placing and embedding. then apply the color swatch to it in Illustrator. Normally I would try the suggestions before I offer them but I am unable to do so at this time.

Good Luck
