Adobe Illustrator/problems printing onto a Roland VP-300 directly from Adobe Illustrator 9

QuestionHi Kevin
I run a sign/decal shop in Canada and was lucky enough to get all of my computer software and printer software working.. However, I recently did a Windows update on the PC (we are running XP Pro) that is connected to my Roland VP-300 printer and now Adobe Illustrator will not print directly to the printer. It will send it and it will appear for a second on the print queue and then the printer freezes. The problem is not with the Roland printer because if I use the special program that comes with the printer (VersaWorks), it prints fine. Any thoughts about what to do?
thanks very much, any help is appreciated.

AnswerHi Ian,
Check the Roland website for any patches or printer firmware updates that work specifically with Illustrator 9. This means that you may have to uninstall your current Roland software. My thought is that if you are using CutPro, or another Roland software app or plug in and you may have accidentally updated it to an Illustrator 10 compatible version.
If you do not find anything on the Roland site, it may be your windows updater messed up your printer description file. Unfortunately, Windows is notorious for having "updates" that ruin communication with peripherals. If that is the case, try reinstalling printer description files on your computer.
