Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Illustrator for Logos with Microsoft Publisher
Expert: Kevin Stohlmeyer - 3/25/2008
QuestionQUESTION: Hi,
I am about to purchase Adobe Illustrator for PC to make design logos for the company I work for and I wanted to know if I will be able to use the logo created in Illustrator to add to a brochure in Microsoft Publisher. I see that the export process is possible on Mac to Word but is it possible for PCs to Publisher? Am I better off with Photoshop? Thanks!
ANSWER: HI Jana,
First off, sorry to hear you will be using Publisher.
But rest assured Publisher can import .eps files so no worries. Word has issues with image file types so when Illustrator goes to word it creates a .png compatible file.
If you are going to purchase software, I would HIGHLY recommend buying a creative suite package instead of individual applications. This way you have PS, Ill, Acrobat Pro, and (for when they figure out that this is a better page layout application) InDesign.
Thanks!

QUESTION: Kevin-
Thank you for answering my question! To clarify, if I wanted to design a logo for a new product, and then use the logo in a four page color brochure- I would ideally use Adobe Illustrator for the logo and then InDesign for the Brochure? Does InDesign interface easily or is it something I would want to take a class on, to be able to use it?
AnswerHi Jana,
You would design your logo in Illustrator and place it in whatever page program you choose. InDesign by far is much more user friendly and more widely accepted than Publisher. I would recommend classes from an Adobe Training Center for any of these programs, especially if you are new to them. Otherwise, the Adobe Classroom in a Book series (amazon) is a good place to start.
Thanks
