Question
QUESTION: I have found that creating a blend between two simple line segments does not
create a spine. Do you know any way to fix this problem?

ANSWER: Hi Paul,

What do you mean by spine?

QUESTION: I figured it out. Actually, my Illustrator teacher showed me tonight in class.

When you create a blend between two shapes, a path which Illustrator calls a
"spine" is created between them which can be edited as a normal path to change
the direction or apply a curve to the blend.

However, if you create a blend between two line segments which only have two
points each, the spine is inaccessible.

My teacher showed me that if you create such a blend, draw a separate path
elsewhere, then select both the blend object and the new path, you can use
Object>Blend>Replace Spline and the blend will consume the path and it will be
editable.

Thanks anyhow for your quick reply! Maybe you will be able to use this trick
someday.
Paul

Answer
Thanks Paul!

I love to learn things. What you get out of Illustrator is really a result of what you use it for, you know?

Since I do mostly graphics, I rarely get to use blends like that.

When I read your description, I did recall needing that trick in the past!

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.
