Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator transparency from Photoshop

Question
Hi there!  I am working in CS3.  I am importing a .psd image with a transparent background into Illustrator.  In Illustrator, the image sits on top of a solid background.  When printed, under the .psd image box the background is fade of the rest of the color, becoming a transparency, instead of solid background right up to the .psd. image  Is there a way to save the .psd file so that it does not cause the illustrator background the shade?  Thanks for your time!

Answer
Hi Danny,

You have to create a clipping mask in Illustrator. Place your image on its own layer, then either copy and paste or create a path on top of the object. Then in the layers palette, click the create clipping mask button.

Thanks
