Adobe Illustrator/PDF in CMYK
Expert: Kevin Stohlmeyer - 3/30/2008
QuestionQUESTION: Hi Kevin
I am having trouble making my PDF in CMYK.
I am working on a doc and all my setting are in CMYK. I have black text and when i use the eye dropper it says that it is 100% K which is perfect. However when i save my PDF, and then open it in Illustrator and i use my eyedropper on the black text it says that it is a mix of all CMYK colors not just 100% black. I am sooooo confused and the ad is being published in a newsprint magazine and they will not accept having all 4 colours in the text.
Can you please help me!! Have i got something ticked when i printing my PDF that I shouldn't have?
Will look forward to recieving your reply.
Thanks so much
Susan :)
ANSWER: Hi Susan,
Under your preferences>appearance of black you can change your black to 100% K instead of the 4 color mix.
Thanks

QUESTION: Hi Kevin
Thank you for responding to my question.
I tried what you said - I open my ad in Illustrator and went to edit, preferences, appearance of black. Then there are two options. ON SCREEN: i put - Display All Black Accurately
and PRINTING/EXPORTING: Output All Blacks accurately.
Then i made my PDF again and opened in Illustrator and it still says my black is still a mix of all CMYK colours.
Sorry have i done this correctly? Or is there another option that will fix my problem?
Cheers
Susan
AnswerHi Susan,
After you set your preferences, did you change your blacks to 100% K again?
Also, with this ad, is everything created in Illustrator, ie. no placed graphics? This preference does not apply to placed images such as photos or other images that were not created directly in Illustrator.
Thanks
