Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I obtained an OpenType font that is in a foreign language, Thai.  On my PC (in Illust), it only shows up as boxes; on my Mac, the font shows up fine.  How do I get the font to show up correctly on my PC in Illustrator?  I have "installed" the font on my pc, it shows up in MS Word, and I have the foreign language toggle/bar working... what else can i do?

Thanks!!

ANSWER: Hi Neda,

That depends on your version of Illustrator.

Older versions offer no support.

If you have a newer version, I think you need to have a Windows keyboard layout installed... if that's what you meant by toggle bar, sorry... if not, go to Control Panels > Regional and Language options and select the appropriate items on the Languages and Advanced tabs, including the items found under Text Services and Input languages.

What happens when you copy Thai text from word and pasting it into Illy?

QUESTION: Hi Amy,

Thanks for your quick response!  I have Adobe Illust. 8.0.  Is that a supported version?  Also, I have installed the keyboard layout.  When I copy the text, I still get boxes... :(

Any other tips?

Thank you!!

Answer
Hi Neda,

Sorry to tell you that 8.0 didn't support foreign language fonts!

I hope you can find a way to work around it for your project! Maybe use the Mac for this one?

I'm not 100% certain that someone hasn't found a work-around for your specific issue/version, so you might want to visit the Adobe Forums and search for posts...

GOod luck!
