Adobe Illustrator/Cut & Pasting is off-centered...

Question
QUESTION: Hi Kevin. When I make a document that is (for example) 2"x2" in Ill. CS2, and then make a box that is the same size, I would normally cut the object, fit document in window, and then paste with the desired effect of the object automatically being centered on the document. But Ihave noticed that after pasting, the object isn't centered. Why would this be happening? Thanks in advance!

ANSWER: Hi Monte,

I have had this happen, and what I found was a stray point being copied over with the object, which throws off the centering aspect. Double check your pasted object (use select all) and see if there is a stray point or piece of something coming along for the ride.

Thanks

Kevin

QUESTION: Thanks again for the swift reply...  no, I do not have any stray points, and I am
only working with one layer.

Answer
Hi Monte,

Thanks for the follow up. One thing you can try to remedy this is to use the paste in front command once in the new document. This will paste it exactly into the same positioning as your original file, which was centered.

Other than the extra point issue, I cannot find any other reason why it would not drop it directly into the center of your document, no matter what the size is.

Sorry
