Subject: Illustrator CS2 shift, option keys dont work
Question I am using Illustrator CS2 on a Mac and won't let me use shift, option or anything like to scale proportionally or make a duplicate of anything unless I copy paste. This is problematic please help.
Answer Hi Liz.
It doesn't sound like you're talking about the frequent "oops" of Bounding Boxes being turned off (Cmd + Shift + B) or found under View menu.
It sounds instead like something I have encountered with CS2 and CS3.
When it happens, I usually quit and restart AI. I turn off all non-Adobe apps and background apps that I can before restarting. A big offender on my machine is a utility from my ISP. Another bad guy is something called Entourage.
When that doesn't work, I reset my preferences.
1 - Quit AI
2 - Locate and delete the AIprefs files from your computer
3 - Restart AI
This will fix it. Unfortunately, if you have a lot of custom settings and preferences in your workspace, you will have to reset them.
If you choose, you can move the AIprefs file to the desktop instead of deleting it. That way, if the problem isn't solved by this troubleshooting method, you can quit AI, move the file back to its original location (overwriting the new AIprefs that will have been created) and restart AI. Your favorite settings will still be there.
Hope this helps! I have not yet found what causes this on my machine but it happens once in awhile.
Amy
