Adobe Illustrator/Saving file message

Question
Hi Kevin-

While working on an existing file, making changes and attempting to save, I am getting a message that reads: "This file has been modified outside Illustrator. Do you want to continue?". It does allow me to save but what does this message mean?

Answer
Hi Joanna,

A lot of times, this means that the original file has been moved while you had it open. This is common if you work in a server environment. I have had this happen due to a font issue and sometimes, if I have opened an older version of a file. It is not a catastrophic error, just a nuisance.

Thanks

Kevin
