Question
Hi Kevin!

i've save my Autocad in 2000/2002 version. then i try to open it in Illustrator, but I always get this error message "The file cannot be open because of unknown error"
then i try to open other types of dwg file, but i still couldn't open it. do i need plug ins to be able to open the dwg file?

thanks. waiting for your answer.

Answer
Hi Zenn,

Unfortunately, this usually is an error with AutoCad not illustrator.

First, make sure you are using the import option and not file>open to bring these in. You also need to be using Illustrator CS2 or later to import. CS does not support 2000 files.

Second, if you are and its still not working, I have a feeling that you have a preference turned on in Autocad that is not allowing it to be imported into Illustrator. Illustrator opens a lot of things, but certain advanced settings when saving as a dwg can snafoo it up.

Try creating a very basic dwf file, no text, just line work and turn off all option when saving. Also check your settings when you create a document.

Thanks

Kevin
