Adobe Illustrator/saving and deleting AI-files in Vista

Question
Hey,

For a long time i've been having this frustrating problem in windows vista, using illustrator CS
When i try to save a file, i get the error "file is read only..." and i have to save as.
It's ok to do it like that, but the other problem is that i can't delete the original file 'cause i get the error "file is in use".
So my pc is full of illustrator-files which i can't delete.
Is there any way to fix this problem?

Greetz and thanks!

Answer
Hi Eva,

I use this great little utility called Move on Boot. You basically mark locked files for delete and the next time you restart, they're gone.

http://www.gibinsoft.net/gipoutils/fileutil/index.htm
That's a link to the company that provides it (it's free). That download is a package of small utilities but you can find it all over on the internet as a standalone.

There are a lot of posts about the original problem at adobe.com/forums

Maybe when you have some time, you could go there and search for the problem and see what other Vista users do to get around it or maybe even solve it?

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
