Subject: Can't Open EPS Version 8 File

Question
I purchased a file for download from Vectorstock. It says that the file type is:
Vector EPS (version 8). When I try to open the file I get the message-

"Can't import the styles from this file. The file was generated by a newer
version of Illustrator and can not be opened. Please resave it in a format
compatible with your version on Illustrator"

I am running Illustrator CS version 11.0.0 on a Mac IBook G4 running OS X
version 10.4.11.  Can you help?   Thanks

Answer
Hi Sharon,

I have a feeling that this is not a true Illustrator 8 eps file. You computer is assigning it a file format that it can understand, but in reality it could have been created with something like Freehand or other application. Heres some suggestions to help. First,  the help section in Vectorstock and see if this is a common issue. Perhaps they have a workaround. Otherwise, try importing this into Photoshop and see if it comes up. If PS can't read it, your file may be corrupt all together. Without knowing how this was created its hard to fix the issue.

If all else fails, Id contact Vectorstock customer service and explain the issue.

Thanks

Kevin
