Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Design Standard CS3 under XP SP2
Expert: Kevin Stohlmeyer - 6/18/2008
QuestionQUESTION: I have a user who is experiencing various errors when using CS3. Here are some sample screen shots. Please can you advise on a solution:
(Error 1)DDE Server Window: Photoshop.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x003f1f30" referenced memory at "0x003f1f30". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.
(Error 2)Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Errot! Program: C:... R6025 - pure virtual function call
ANSWER: Hi John,
Unfortunately this is what is known as a kernel error, which has to do more with the hard drive on your computer rather than the installed applications. You will need to reformat and reinstall everything on this computer. Its not just a matter of reinstalling your apps. The whole thing will have to be wiped clean.
I've check some tech docs to verify and all say to do this. There is no patch or workaround as it is terminating the application.
Thanks
Kevin

QUESTION: Hi Kevin,
Have done this twice on two different high end PCs - HP XW6400 workstations with 2 gig of RAM and 250gig SATA drives. Your recommendation to rebuild is now indicating to me that these fairly new HP machines have hardware bugs in them. What do you think?
ANSWER: John,
Do you have Powerdesk installed on these machines?
This is the thread I just found regarding this:

QUESTION: Hi kevin,
No, Powerdesk is not installed. They have NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600 Graphics cards installed.
AnswerSorry John,
I've exhausted all tech docs and unless it has to do with the application conflict, they recommend a complete wipe and reinstall. If you have already done this, it sounds like you may have a couple of bad machines.
Wish I could have helped more.
