Adobe Illustrator/1 gig memory limitation
Expert: Kevin Stohlmeyer - 7/11/2008
QuestionQUESTION: I met with AI problem - it just cannot utilize more that 1 gig of memory - and my project may need up to 4.
Also, this limitation does not allow even A5 cutouts to be "flattened" ("not enough memory" to flatten transparences) with ugly PDF's in rusult.
May transition to 64-bit OS cure the problem or is it a C++ version used bottleneck?
ANSWER: Hi Stanislav,
Transitioning to a 64-bit OS will not help since AI is built to run on a 32 bit system currently. What version of Illustrator are you running on and what system are you currently operating on?
Thanks

QUESTION: CS2 on XP, But tried all combinations of CS2/3 on XP/Vista.
Seem will have to go to AutoCAD/M-Color
AnswerHi Stanislav,
The issue here seems to be your available memory. Here are somethings to keep in mind:
CS2 is not recommended for Vista, the last supported system to use this is XP. If your project has exceeded your available memory, switching OS, versions, etc. will not help.
If you are trying to create a technical document that really does require 4 gigs of memory, I would agree that you should switch to AutoCAD. Illustrator is a great application, but does not compare to CAD apps which are designed for this kind of work.
If your file is not a tech doc, and just has a lot of transparency issues, you may need to review your memory usage on your PC. (see previous answers regarding memory).
Thanks
