Adobe Illustrator/exporting .ai to .jpeg without excess clipping mask

Question
I am using AI 10 to produce a fairly straight-forward piece of artwork.  When I go to export the artwork into a .jpeg file and open it, there is a lot of excess white background off to the side of my artwork where the clipping mask image that I used is hidden from view (even using the transparency grid).  I don't want to have to use photoshop to crop out the excess if there is a way to simply exclude this from the exported image.  How do I export the image to show only what is located within the confines of my artboard size?

Answer
Hi Ryan,

You will need to create crop marks when you export. Drag a rectangle shape to the requested size, then go to object>crop mark>make. This will be the size exported when saving out as a jpg. However...

If you are trying to save out with transparency, this is not supported in a jpg format. You should try saving this as a png or psd format to save transparency.

Thanks

Kevin
