Adobe Illustrator/transparency from PS to AI

Question
I have a picture that I have removed all the background in Photoshop. When I open it up in Illustrator, it ALWAYS comes up with a white background. I can't seem to get the background in Illustrator to be transparent. (I'm fairly new to Illustrator....)

Answer
Hi  Kathy,

You will need to create a clipping mask in IL. Heres how it works:

Place your PS file on its own layer. Then draw a path around your image and be sure to close the path. Then at the bottom of the layer palette, click the masking button. This will create a "window" that will show your PS image without the background.

Thanks
