Adobe Illustrator/CS2 Can't Open the Illustration

Question
Initially purchased AI CS2 and installed it on an XP computer where it worked fine.  Created 2 final documents and then got new computer with Vista home premium and transferred everything.

Now upon opening program, midway through it will say "not enough RAM" (Comp. has 3G compared with 1G on earlier model). It continues opening after I hit OK.  Seems to work fine on opening all older files except the last 2 made on old computer; instead displays "Can't open the illustration", though it does then open with the last used grids and palettes that were used on each.

Per a different answer here, changed one of them from .ai to .pdf where it will open fine in Adobe Reader.  But CS2 won't do anything at all when I try to use it to open that .pdf

Finally (sorry!) thought maybe I should re-install the program, but discovered there is a repair program, so ran that.  No changes.

Should I re-install the program?  Maybe I'm not allowed to transfer the program from one computer to another?

Answer
H iDavid,

You need to do clean installs whenever changing computers. There are components hidden throughout your PC that do not automatically transfer. Reinstall and everything should be ok, however, CS2 is not built around the Vista operating system and is actually no longer supported by Adobe or Windows. You may need to ultimately upgrade to CS3 which takes advantage of the new Vista Memory allocating system.

Thanks
