Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator 10
Expert: Kevin Stohlmeyer - 8/20/2008
QuestionI just installed a new HP PC DX2400. To my surprise it came with Vista, downgraded to XP (later upgradeable). I installed Adobe Pagemaker, Photoshop and Illus.10. They all worked and were able to open my large graphics database with some minor font issues. I then installed new Office 2007 Basic (Word, Outlook, and Excell). Illustrator 10 would no longer open. I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall. After 80% installation it hung up on SVG Viewer installer. Additional attempts resulted in it all the problems you discussed in response to Cynthia on 1/9/2008. It wouldn't uninstall or or reinstall. I manually deleted all references to Illustrator 10 and it won't reinstall - keeps coming up with options: Modify,Repair Remove. I thought it might be that the operating system is Vista downgraded to XP, but Illus. 10 worked fine before I installed Office 2007. I then installed Illustrator 8.0 and it works fine.
Iv'e thought about uninstalling Office 2007 but I don't know if Illus. 10 will then work.
Do you have any insight into this problem? Do you know of any conflicts between Office 2007 & Illustrator 10? Do you think if I stepped up to CS3 I would have the same problem?
Any knowledge or help you have on this subject would be appreciated.
AnswerHi Ed,
I checked all my tech docs and sites and have not found anything about incompatibility with Office 07 and Illustrator 10. I have a feeling the fact that you had to downgrade to XP from Vista may be a place to start.
Im not sure how far you want to take this, but I guess I would start clean and wipe the HD, install XP clean with no Vista (ew) remnants, then install Office 07, then the Creative Suite and see how that goes.
Sorry I couldn't find the magic bullet for you.
