Adobe Illustrator/Links getting chopped up

Question
Kevin,

I'm not sure  if this problem is with Illustrator or In-Design. We receive files
in all types of programs, but use Illustrator to apply bleeds and prep files for
production. So we export files as .eps from In-Design and Quark. I notice that
more often than not, if there is a raster link in the file, it is broken up when I
open the file in Illustrator. It's a problem when I need to update a link or
replace a link.

Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Bob,

This is not really an error, it is just how InDesign and Quark create the eps file format.

Try exporting out as a pdf its not a guarantee, but sometimes works. You can also add bleeds in ID and Quark before you export to save a step in AI as well.

Even if your image is not sliced, it is no longer linked like in ID or Quark, it is now an embedded file. If you are going to be replacing images, I would do so in the original files.

Thanks

Kevin
