Question

I have created a flier on illustrator, and have even linked community names to their webpage from info you wrote answering someone else's question. I now need to know how to import that ai document into blogger to convert to html so I can email out thru my company system. Seems that it only allows jpg or gif files to be uploaded, not pdf, and it loses clarity and all the url links.

Answer
Hi D'Anne.

You're going to want to use the "save for web" command in Illustrator.

First, you'll want to use the slice tool (hidden under the crop tool) to divide the artwork into slices. Slices make the artwork a little more browser-friendly and quicker loading. Try to divide the artwork by similarity of color palette. If there's a photographic image, make that its own slice. If there's a block of text, make that its own slice, etc.

When it's all sliced, choose File > Save for Web & Devices. When the save dialog appears, click on each slice and set its variables - gif or jpeg, compression settings, color palette, etc.

Then, when you have them all set, click SAVE. You'll see another prompt where you'll choose "HTML and images" and "All Slices."

That will generate an html file and all the images/slices to go with. You've maybe done this in PhotoShop? You can then edit the html in Dreamweaver or the program of your choice just like any other html.  You should be able to get this to work with blogger.

Hope this helps!

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.
