Question
I am creating a brochure for a gallery and teaching myself Adobe Illustrator - I have CS3 version. I have text and images(artwork) - my question is how can I create a thin black border to each of these inserted images???  Many have white backgrounds and the brochure is white so I need this to distinguish the edge. I'd like to be able to re-scale and move the inserted images after the border is applied.
I tried to do in photoshop as well - thinking that once the border was applied it would stay associated with the image once it was inserted into AI

Answer
Hi Kathleen

The better application to be doing this in is InDesign, but if you have to use Illustrator heres what you can do:

You will need to add a rectangle shape over the top of your images with no fill. You cannot add a stroke directly to an image you have placed in Illustrator. Then, using the stroke palette, you can change the width to whatever you need. You can then select both the image and the border and group them so they will remain together.

However, if you want to move the images inside the border without changing the size of the border, do not group them.

Thanks
