Adobe Illustrator/retrieving Illustrator 8.0 files
Expert: Kevin Stohlmeyer - 1/13/2009
QuestionQUESTION: I recently saved a document with file extension .ai version 8.0. I closed the document and the next day, I was unable to get the file to come up. The message Illustrator cannot opent the file Input Output Error. I was also unable to open any of the other files that I created over the years on this system. Is this a computer issue or an illustrator issue? please help...KC
ANSWER: hi Kevin,
Are you saving to a network connection? That is normally the issue with IO and Illustrator. Drag or save the files to your hard drive. Also are you on a Mac or PC system?
If you are not saving to a server or network connection (basically anywhere but the local HD) let me know along with your version number and operating system.
Thanks
Kevin

QUESTION: Kev,
thanks for your follow up. I am saving onto the hard drive. It is a Power Mac 7300 system running Mac OS8. I ran first aid on the hard drive and it checked out. rebuilt the desktop, and changed my illustrator setting to use more memory. That seems to have solved the problem. I did lose one critical illustration that I had to redraw.
AnswerHi Kevin,
WOW. Didnt expect to hear that you were running that old of a system. Also be sure that you are running a font manager system to help keep your active font usage down. If you are having memory issues now, they will eventually come back.
Thanks
Kevin
