Adobe Illustrator - Illustrator CS - File wont open

Expert: Kevin Stohlmeyer - 11/6/2009

Question
Hi

I Have just bought a MacBook Pro and transferred (using the migration facility) all my programs and documents from my MacMini to it. All the files apart from one open perfectly. It's just typical that the most important file I need is the one that wont open. It opens fine on the MacMini but it won't open on the Pro. It says 'Can't open the illustration. The illustration contains an incomplete or garbled object description.'
I tried deleting it and re-saving the original file on my MacMini to a CD under a new name and transferring it to the Pro that way but it still wont open. Any ideas?

Answer
Sorry D,

I've never heard of an error like this before nor can I find any tech documents referencing "garbled object description" so I'm going to give you some suggestions.

Have you tried saving this out as an .eps from Illustrator or a .pdf file instead to see if it transfers ok? If a .ai file does not work, try other formats.

If you have a new MacBook I'm assuming it has snow leopard on it. CS is not recommended and has know compatibility issues with that OS. Im not saying that it is the cause, but could be contributing.

Thanks

Kevin
