Question
Is there a way rather then the Pen tool to add a stroke line that will follow the same contour of a multifaceted and multi-layered object? I'm tiring to cut out a figure with a large format vinyl printer which will cut along a designated special contour (stroke) line. I would like a symmetrical cut out approximately ¼ inch wider than the actual artwork object thanks

I am not exactly sure what you are doing, so I will try and help you out, but I may be a bit off.
You can use the pathfinder palette to join all the layers of this object into one shape. Then you can use the scissors tool to cut the outline of this shape if you do not need it all.
I am not sure if that is exactly what you want, but I would definitely recommend playing around with the pathfinder palette.
