Question

abss2009_t-shirt.jpg
Is there a reason not to create outlines, then use "Object>Envelope Distort>Make With Warp" to manipulate the text block as a graphic-?

I found the "Free Distort" method too "free", hard to control and duplicate (Make w/ Warp has numerical settings); it just didn't look right.

As I recall, the Star Wars credits were quite "symmetrical"...NOT the look I got w/ Free Distort.

BTW:  THANKS for drawing attention to the "Expand Appearance" feature!

Sorry that I didn't keep the Free Distortion version for comparison to the Warp version that I've attached.

Answer
Yes, Douglas,

Because I believe the question and answer you are referencing is from  2006 and the questioner is using version 9. Envelope distort wasn't available.

Re: CorelDraw.

HI again,

Corel had some more useful features for a long time. I used to use it. Actually, some people still favor Corel. Every once in awhile, I'll get a question from a Corel user saying "Why is this so hard in Illustrator when it's a snap in Corel?"

May the force be with you,
Amy

CommentAh, yes, didn't pay attention to the version and features ... thanks! (I guess CorelDraw was "ahead" of Illustrator at one time.)

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
